New Jersey Peace Action is hosting its 53rd annual Soup Luncheon on Saturday, Nov. 20 from 11:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bloomfield High School, 160 Broad St. The event is intended to celebrate the strength of grassroots efforts to bring about peace and social and economic justice with a presentation of readings from: "Voices of a People's History of the United States: A Tribute to Howard Zinn."
Dramatic and musical performances of the letters, diaries and speeches in "Voices of a People's History of the United States" are intended to focus on the concept of democracy based on the lives and experiences of ordinary Americans who, through their words and actions, changed history.
One of the readers, Bloomfield resident Peter Parros, has over 20 years of experience as a professional actor and writer.
For seven years, Parros played Dr. Ben Harris on the Emmy Award-winning "Best Daytime Drama" As The World Turns. This portrayal earned Parros two NAACP Image Award nominations.
The event begins with a social hour and silent auction from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Lunch begins at 12:45 p.m., followed by the presentation in the Bloomfield High School auditorium. The event concludes at 4 p.m.
